Tax Manager

Responsibilities

• Manage relationships with external advisors to ensure timely and accurate filing of federal, state, and local corporate, REIT, and partnership income tax returns.
• Develop and implement effective tax strategies to optimize the company’s tax position and minimize overall tax burden.
• Oversee REIT qualification matters, including testing and compliance to maintain REIT status.
• Conduct due diligence for proposed acquisitions and support tax-related matters for disposition transactions.
• Ensure compliance with all indirect tax filings, including B&O tax, gross receipts tax, and business licenses.
• Assist in managing the taxable REIT subsidiary, including quarterly income tax provisions and intercompany transactions.
• Support income tax examinations and respond to various tax notices, ensuring compliance and risk management.

Qualifications

• Must-Have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
• 5 - 7+ years of experience in tax planning, compliance, and return preparation for corporate, partnership, and REIT tax matters.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of partnership taxation and familiarity with corporate tax and California tax matters.
• Proficiency in U.S. GAAP reporting for income taxes and understanding of REIT qualification and transfer pricing issues.
• Nice-to-Have:
• Experience with Yardi and Big 4 public accounting.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated analytical skills to identify and address tax-related issues and opportunities.
